The oven of Can Monroig

arco horno

During the restoration of Can Monroig that began in 2002, a stone arch appeared in one of the rooms, almost at ground level.
It would take us a few months to lift the stone slabs and unearth what turned out to be a small oven.

There were two wells in the oven enclosure, one of them was filled with earth, the other was covered by a stone slab and, as it was a filtration well, it was full of water.

In 2014, through archaeologist Jorge Argüello, we requested permission from the heritage department to carry out archaeological excavations in the oven area.
The archaeological study at Can Monroig will begin on July 6, focusing on the oven and one of the wells in this area.

This is possible thanks to Jorge's enormous generosity and interest, since we do not receive any help to finance this work;
Therefore, it takes the form of an introductory course in archaeology, with a financial contribution from the students and with a maximum of six participants due to limited space.
We hope that this course, which begins on July 6, can provide us with new information about the origins of Can Monroig.
