Fronterazul serves as an experimental laboratory for flamenco/jazz musicians who collaborate in search of their own sound. In 2013, musicians Manuel Carmona and Samuel García met, and the band began to take shape with the desire to find a new proposal with its own sound. Music with flamenco roots that draws influences from jazz, funk, or Brazilian music, but without ever losing sight of the flamenco sense and the touch. In two years of career they have played in many national stages, theaters, jazz clubs and several flamenco festivals. They are currently recording their first album, where they collaborate with great musical references such as David Pastor, Jorge Pardo, Josemi Carmona, among others. The standard formation is always made up of Samuel García (trumpet/violin/flugel) and Manuel Carmona (flamenco guitar/effects), from this root the ensembles of musicians from trio to septet are formed. The quartet formed by Benji Habichuela (percussion) and Nene Maya (bass) is the formation that closes the project in its most faithful form in terms of sound and concept of the band.
Fronterazul presents its formation as a trio in Can Monroig: Manuel Carmona on guitar, Samuel García on trumpet and José Llorach on percussion.
During the concert, Dan Norton will interact with the musicians through his projections.

Trumpet, flugelhorn and violin
He graduated in violin and trumpet from the Conservatory of Music of the Balearic Islands in 2012. In classical music, he collaborates sporadically with the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra. He has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia, performing in the best halls in Spain with renowned conductors, always combining his studies in classical music with those of modern music. He has performed in Spain, France, Cuba and Germany. He is currently a member of the Original Jazz Orchestra (OJO) of the Taller de Músicas (Bcn) under the baton of David Pastor, Fronterazul (flamencojazz), Aduna jazzfusion/world music), among others, performing on stages such as Jazzcava (Terrassa), Jamboree (BCN), Palau de la Música Catalana (BCN), among others.

Flamenco guitar
Of Granada descent and a family fond of flamenco, this art was transmitted to him in a family way, starting to learn the language, initially percussion and later the guitar. At the age of 18 he moved to Barcelona to study architecture where he also came into contact with flamenco clubs, learning to accompany singing and dancing with the guitar from various masters of the instrument that he met between Barcelona and Granada. Mixing with musicians from all over the world he has developed his own style, which allows him to compose freely within flamenco and music. He has shared the stage with musicians such as Josemi Carmona, Emiliano Castro, David Pastor, Toni Cuenca, Ari Colares, Beto Angerosa… attended seminars with Jorge Pardo, Lluis Coloma, Jaco Abel, etc… and participated in festivals in countries such as Brazil, France, Germany, Morocco, and different stages of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

Percussion
At the age of nineteen he started playing drums in rock bands such as “Angel Negro” and fusion bands “Skandalo”, performing on underground and alternative European stages. At the end of the 90s he moved to the Basque Country where he performed at reggae, folk and world music festivals. During this time he worked with the company of the dancer Chua Alba; together with the artists Gaizha Baena, Juantxin Osaba and Ander Unzaga he formed the flamenco group “Kandela”.
In 2009, together with dancer Karen Lugo, he received first prize at the Almería International Dance Festival; with this artist he went on tours that took him to Mexico, Guatemala and India, among other countries.
He currently resides in Mallorca where he regularly plays with other flamenco musicians.

Dan Norton
An interdisciplinary artist, he has been working in the field of software, netart and other interventions for twenty years. His work has been featured at the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Berlin, at Sonar in Barcelona, and at the “Made in Britain” exhibition of the British Council in China. He is currently a researcher for the “visual interaction group” at the “Centre de visió per computador” in Barcelona.
