Hexe/ Performance by Concha Vidal/ 2018

Concha Vidal

“Hexe” created and directed by Concha Vidal; performers: Concha Vidal, Currusca Collado, Amaia Ruiz and Juana Castell; lighting: Jenny Vila. December 8 and 9 at 7 pm at Can Monroig, Inca.

The classic “Malleus Maleficarum” published in 1485-86 tells us that “All evil is little compared to that of a woman, what is a woman but the enemy of a friendship, a punishment from which you cannot escape, a necessary evil, a natural temptation, a desirable calamity, a domestic danger, a delectable detriment, an evil nature painted in pretty colors, a structural defect rooted in the original creation.”

“Hexe” means witch in German. Hexe is a shower of hushed, repressed voices, stored away somewhere in the body, perhaps in the part that hurts the most. A channel that gives voice to that which has never been said, to the taboo, to that which one does not even know exists.
It is not a simple confession, but rather a matter of letting the insides speak, rewriting one's biography from the pulse of the most absolute freedom. Repositioning, relocating the pain of so many devastated female voices, giving voice to those bodies of pain that the bonfires extinguished, returning color to the paleness of those bodies of ash.

Concha Vidal

Truths swallowed up by a rigid, patriarchal and dominant society. The witches of the Middle Ages, but who are contemporary witches? How to recognize them? How to silence them? What are the mechanisms of detection and repression of the subversive in today's society? What are the control mechanisms in our hyper-technological era?

Speech, verbs, words that do not find the strength to be said. Stammerings, unfinished sentences. Speeches that begin and end nowhere.

Concha Vidal

Concha Vidal She has a degree in psychology with a PhD in fine arts from the University of Barcelona and works as a performer and video artist. With a long career as a painter, she has completed artistic residencies at universities such as SVA and Cooper Union (NYC). She has participated in various festivals in Croatia, Switzerland and Palma de Mallorca. Her interdisciplinary performances combine theatre, dance and video art. With a very personal language, Concha takes up the theme of women, the body and the landscape through a radical aesthetic and from a new and surprising perspective, offering a look that can sometimes be uncomfortable, seeking to transform the viewer.
