Music without labels

We like creative people to live in this house, to flood this space with their music, their poetry and their colors. We met Manuel Santiago and his painting through Facebook, we no longer remember how or who we contacted. Manuel came to one of our concerts accompanied by two musicians, Elisabeth Monacelli and Toni Verd.
Later Elisabetta would tell us that Manuel, an artist who retired from the circuit of the galleries For 10 years, she had been looking for a different place to present her work. One day Manuel said to her: “Elisabetta, you have to come and see this, I've already found it,” he was talking about Can Monroig. Shortly afterwards, she brought us her painted books. The conversation lasted for hours, talking about art, listening to their suggestions, looking at the drawings of their parents page by page painted books.

Manuel opened his secret books to the public Can Monroig accompanied by the music of Elisabeta Monacelli, Toni Verd, Victor Mardarás, Kiko Barrenengoa and Daniel Hernandez….the experience was unique.

Each musician composed his own music inspired by one of Manuel's painted books. Each of them played in one corner of the house. If you have ever been here you will know that it is a house with different levels, some of them in the basement, all open and communicating with each other. The music floated throughout the house, at times all the instruments played together, interacting with each other. Elisabetta's more classical cello, Daniel's electric guitar, Kiko's violin, electronic music played by Victor with toys, various gadgets such as an old record player and Tibetan bowls or Toni's toy xylophone. It was an electrifying experience, we were left wanting more and that is good.

The most impressive thing is that the whole music of “a secret book for a secret person It was composed for that occasion, ephemeral music in short. What a display of creativity!
After this, a concert in Can Monroig was pending. Alens, the group they are part of, but it was difficult, some of them spent the summer outside Majorca, perhaps it was not the time for that either.

Alens

Toni suggested playing solo, later Kiko, Paula and Elisabetta joined.
Some of them are members of the group Alens, where they play relaxed, poetic, minstrel-like music. We could call it folk but we don't like labels and as Elisabetta says, they are not necessary. Music is just music.
And how can magic arise between  musicians as different as Kiko who comes from making electronic music in Neotokyo, or currently in Trenched Olivea , Elisabetta with a more classical training or Toni Verd who has been in groups of Heavy rock like “the raw ones”? Well, we don’t know, but that magic exists.

They are called Alens, Valparaiso, Tulpen and Aucell Cantaire  – this has made the title of the concert a bit complicated-
We have already said that we do not like labels, so we will not say what the concert is about and we will also let ourselves be surprised.
To further confuse you, we share a video from Toni Verd's punk era in “los crudas”, which is, to say the least, surprising.

The Raws
We forgot, Manuel, Kiko, Elisabetta, Victor and Toni are teachers at a school that we should call “alternative” but as we definitely hate labels, we will say that it is the school we would have liked to attend as children, it is located in Mancor del Vall and it is called Sa KeyThere they teach their students music, recess is not held in the playground but in the forest and of course the end-of-year parties have original music composed by Toni and the other teachers.

Definitely, let us be surprised.
