“Building restoration can be defined as the art of preserving assets, returning them to their former position or an improved condition.
Restoration is a legacy we leave to the next generation.
Architecture embodies our heritage. Our buildings are a reflection of our values.
Through restoration, we preserve our link to the past.”

“We apply eco-efficiency and sustainability criteria to the restoration of a building, as an alternative to strict compliance with planning rules in this field, the results from the energy survey carried out in compliance with state building regulations show that a restoration project must be seen as an opportunity to make use of traditional construction systems as a tool for revitalizing and conserving historical city centres, and for promoting a new building model with sustainability as the centerpiece of architectural restoration.”

Houses we would like to restore
House in Muro, Mallorca
Robert has been photographing houses for years.
They are always old houses, often abandoned. Mallorcan houses with doors, portals, facades, roofs or textures that are preserved. The colours of Mallorca originals.
Colours that come from the earth, stone or wood. There are still houses like this, scattered around the countryside or in some village on the island. Houses that tell us what traditional Mallorcan construction was like, and I say was because unfortunately it is disappearing.
At Can Monroig we want to work with the earth and clay that surrounds the house, with the lime mortars that were once used in the construction. We recover and reuse materials such as stones or sandstone from the partitions that are removed; we restore and clean the beams or the clay floor; we whitewash or patina the facades as was done in the past. Green construction and sustainable, in short
We are obsessed with old houses, we like them all: small, large; humble country cottages or large estates; town or city houses; convents, ruined castles or baroque mansions; stone, adobe or sandstone constructions… they all have something that makes us fall in love or moves us.
