#NoëlleyRobert #antesdeCanMonroig (I)

We met in 1992 in an advertising photography course organised by the 'consellería de traball'. Robert had just come out of a two-year convalescence after a car accident in which, according to him, he survived by pure miracle, and between lucidity and delirium caused by the coma and medication, he decided that he could not die until he did something better with his life than what he had done until then.

We lived in Palma, a city that twenty years ago was somewhat decrepit and neglected, but with a soul now lost in pursuit of modernity, luxury stores, style, fashion, money and “poseurs”.

We moved between photography, the beautiful architecture of the old houses of Palma and creativity. We were brought together by a very complicated personal situation and we began a life and a learning process together that years later would take us to Can Monroig.
In those early years of our relationship we took photos of the streets of Palma, often at night and sometimes they were self-portraits that we almost never produced due to lack of money.
A few days ago we digitalized a series of black and white photos taken on San Pere Street next to the Baluard. In some of them we used a timer to capture the two of us.
I hadn't seen them until now, although I remember the day we took them, along with a closed barber shop, a broken bicycle and two watches bought at the flea market.

We were already defining our common hobbies, antique objects, architecture, timeless beauty.

A year later we moved to the interior of the island, eternally dissatisfied in search of unsuspected, unknown and unconventional beauty.
