“Melusina” Performance by Itziar Bilbao Urrutia
Friday 13th October at 9pm and Saturday 14th October at 9pm at Can Monroig
Itziar Bilbao Urrutia, recently arrived from coordinating Revolutionary Recreational Repugnantand, a conference and workshop in BilbaoArte on the topic “abject femininity“, will be doing a residency at Can Monroig where she will present her performance “Melusina”.
Itziar He lives in London, where he has been working as a freelance artist since 2002. His preferred media are performance, video and photography. Melusina It is an evolution towards the feminine symbol and mythology and focuses on the acts perpetrated by a feminine power stripped of the values attributed to women: home, family, binary genders, certainties that define women's relationships with culture. Embodying a Melusina which quotes texts from Andrea Dworkin To examine the disempowerment of women raised to decorative objects, Itziar will reverse gender roles.
The medium chosen to explore these relationships in his performance is the shibari or the Japanese art of tying with ropes, which convert the object tied by the artist, in this case, the man, into a toy or decorative element. Finally, the Six Pillars of Power, listed by Andrea Dworkin in her work Pornography, will be sung like an oracle of the Pythia, the other snake-woman of classical tradition, between the walls of Can Monroig.
