Rosh Hashanah 2018 / We celebrate the Jewish New Year at Can Monroig

Rosh Hashanah in Can Monroig, the Jewish quarter of Inca.
Sunday, September 9 at 1:00 p.m.
Music, food and meetings.

A few weeks ago we received Dani Rotstein's proposal for Limud Mallorca to celebrate a meeting of members of their community in Can Monroig during the celebration of the Jewish New Year or Rosh Hashanah. Dani, born in New Jersey in the United States, is of Jewish origin and after living for several years in New York he moved to Mallorca at the end of 2014. On the island he learned the story of the “Chuetas/xuetes” or Majorcan Jews, and he was keenly interested in all the circumstances and historical events that surrounded this community for centuries. Upon discovering the existence of an ancient “call” or Jewish quarter in Inca, he contacted us to learn more about the history of this community. Can Monroig, the architectural remains found during the restoration of the house and the recovery work we have carried out in recent years.

With his wife Carla and a group of volunteers, Dani runs the organization Limud Mallorca which advocates the celebration of Jewish culture, creativity and learning and is based on one principle: we can all be students and teachers.
The Jewish community in Mallorca, which comes from different countries around the world, is made up of around 150-200 people, and it is estimated that the descendants of converted Jews from Mallorca are around 20,000. The celebration of Rosh Hashanah in Can Monroig is not a closed event nor is it exclusive to the Jewish community, but is open to all people interested in the cultures and religions that have passed through the island of Mallorca throughout its history.

But above all we wish to create synergies and connections between all attendees.
